The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities proudly continues a 75-year legacy of promoting understanding and respect on ALL issues of diversity, for ALL age groups, ALL across Virginia. Since our founding in 1935 as the National Conference of Christians and Jews, this organization has led educational programs, conferences, retreats, and workshops for thousands of young people and adults annually.
Yet, the need for our work remains. We see headlines like these in the news all too often:
- “…Student Charged in Ax Attack against Classmate”
(Richmond Times-Dispatch, 10/27/09)
- “Va. Man Charged in Norfolk Synagogue Vandalism”
(The Virginian-Pilot, 8/11/09)
- “Anti-Gay Bias Behind Attack on UVa Student”
(Charlottesville Daily Progress, 4/14/09)
Fortunately, thanks to generous supporters, Inclusive Communities programs to prevent and combat such prejudice are reaching more and more people each year. Through nearly 100 programs delivered, we now reach an average of 7,500 people annually. These figures mark a 200% increase since 2005.
