Last month, Cheerios maker General Mills aired a new commercial that reflected many American households. The clip featured a multi-racial family and was hailed as a first in a major television advertising campaign.
The clip did cause a stir with racially-stirred discriminatory remarks on the brand’s YouTube page leading the parent company to delete and disable comments.
On the popular YouTube series “Kids React” – kids are shown the commercial and don’t understand why people were offended. In fact, the kids get angry when they find out why.
An important piece of inclusion is having a spectrum of diversity for us to relate to as individuals and families. We applaud Cheerios for taking such simple step and hope we will continue to see more commercials like this from mainstream brands.
