Congratulations! Your child has been nominated to attend the 11th annual Richmond Diversity Dialogue Day (DDD), scheduled for December 1, 2020.
Thanks to support from Dominion Energy, there is no cost for your student to attend! DDD is conducted by the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities.
Diversity Dialogue Day will bring together high school students from public and private schools throughout the Richmond area. Students will learn to recognize prejudice and intolerance, and to respect others. They will work closely with their peers from a wide range of ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Students will leave the program with tools they can use to create school and community environments free from the distractions of prejudice, stereotypes, and bigotry.
While at DDD, your child will be led through a series of activities designed to take participants through a process of awareness-to-action. Their educator will send a video for students to watch on the morning of the session, and then your child will engage in virtual, live conversations from 10 AM to 2 PM along with their peers about ways to recognize prejudice and respect others. (A scheduled lunch break and stretch breaks are built in to this time frame.) Trained facilitators will guide the students through small group learning activities that explore personal experiences with discrimination and develop conflict resolution skills.
Please complete the registration form to ensure your child’s registration by November 13. Once your child is registered, you will receive an email from your school point of contact with the attendance link.
If you have any questions, please contact VCIC’s Educational Programs Coordinator Tally Botzer at tbotzer@inclusiveVA.org.
We look forward to the chance to work with your child on December 1!
