Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Virtual Institute for Belonging and Equity (VIBE), scheduled for August 4, 5 & 6, 2021! This free program is conducted online by the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities and made possible thanks to the support of Atlantic Union Bank and the R.E.B. Foundation.
Over the course of three days, VIBE student participants will be led through a series of activities designed to move through a process of awareness to action. As a volunteer facilitator, you will help guide the live, virtual conversations so the group can explore personal experiences with discrimination and develop conflict resolution skills. Students will leave the program with tools to work toward school and community environments that are free from the distractions of prejudice, stereotypes, and bigotry.
Volunteers must commit to attending the full program from 8:45am – 3:30pm each day. There will be scheduled lunch and stretch breaks.
Training for volunteers will take place virtually on July 23, from 9am – 5pm (with multiple breaks). Attending this training is mandatory in order to volunteer.
Volunteer application forms are due July 9.
Note that section five of this application provides a space for applicants to answer the following short-answer questions:
- Why do you wish to be a part of the VIBE experience? What do you expect to gain/share as a result of being a volunteer?
- What specific qualifications, strengths, or insights would you bring to the VIBE experience?
- What training or experience will be of assistance in assuming your position as a virtual volunteer?
- How will you prepare yourself to volunteer for a different type of VCIC program and avoid comparing to your past VCIC experiences?
VCIC will select up to eight volunteers for the program. You will be notified of your application status by July 9.
If you have any questions, please contact VCIC’s Educational Programs Associate Emma Cox at ecox@inclusiveVA.org.
