Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the 16th annual Tidewater Diversity Dialogue Day, on March 12, 2025 at Old Dominion University! Held in Virginia since 2010, this program is designed to bring high school students together from across a geographic area to discuss ways to make their schools more inclusive. Reports from previous programs can be found here.

Thanks to support from Dominion Energy, this program is offered for free to local schools! While at DDD, groups of 25-35 high school students experience workshops facilitated by co-facilitator teams made up of community facilitator-volunteers. Facilitators come from a variety of backgrounds and professions, all with a shared interest in working with young people to promote inclusion and respect.

As a volunteer, you will be asked to commit to co-leading a small group of students through their sessions on March 12, 2025 from 7:30 AM – 2:00 PM. Facilitators are also required to attend a mandatory Facilitator Training on March 4, 2025 from 6:00 PM- 8:30 PM at Old Dominion University. Training will be discussion-based and participatory. Dinner will be provided starting at 5:30 PM

Please complete the application by February 7, 2025. Once you are registered, you will receive information regarding training in the week prior to training.

If you have any questions, please contact VCIC’s Director of Hampton Roads Programs, Meagan Starks, by email at [email protected]

We look forward to the chance to work with you!

Accessibility

The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities strives to make the Tidewater DDD as accessible and inclusive as possible while acknowledging the existence of external barriers that may prevent 100% accessibility. VCIC leans into our core values of integrity and openness as we work to provide the most accessible experience for all, while welcoming feedback about what we can do better.

Upon request made at least four (4) weeks before the event, VCIC commits to:

  •  Provide venue layout information including nearest parking and accessible entrances.
  • Provide large-print handouts and/or support interpreters brought by schools to accompany student participants.
