Congratulations! Your child has been nominated to attend the inaugural Peninsula Prejudice Awareness Summit on February 1, 2022.
Thanks to support from Atlantic Union Bank, there is no cost for your student to attend! PAS, which was founded by Jewish Women International, is conducted by the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities.
VCIC has conducted this program for middle school students in Virginia for nearly 20 years. It is designed to bring approximately 50 students from across a geographic area to discuss ways to combat prejudice in their schools. You can find a report from last year’s programs held in Richmond and Lynchburg here.
While at the Prejudice Awareness summit, your child will be led through a series of activities designed to take participants through a process of awareness-to-action. Their educator will send a video for students to watch on the morning of the session, and then your child will engage in virtual, live conversations from 10 AM to 2 PM along with their peers about ways to recognize prejudice and respect others. (A scheduled 30- minute lunch break and stretch breaks are built in to this time frame.)
