Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the annual Peninsula Diversity Dialogue Day, scheduled for December 3, 2024! Held in Virginia since 2010, this program is designed to bring high school students together from across a geographic area to discuss ways to make their schools more inclusive. Reports from previous programs can be found here.
Thanks to support from Dominion Energy, this program is offered for free to local schools! While at DDD, groups of 25-35 high school students experience workshops facilitated by co-facilitator teams made up of community facilitator-volunteers. Facilitators come from a variety of backgrounds and professions, all with a shared interest in working with young people to promote inclusion and respect.
As a volunteer, you will be asked to commit to co-leading a small group of students through their sessions on December 3, 2024 from 7:30 AM – 2:00 PM at the Peninsula Center Campus of Old Dominion University. Facilitators are also required to attend a mandatory Facilitator Training on Wednesday, November 20 from 6:00-8:30 PM, also held at the Peninsula Center Campus. Training will be discussion-based and participatory. An optional dinner will be provided starting at 5:30 PM that evening, and training will start promptly at 6:00 PM.
Please complete the application by November 5. If you are selected, you will receive an email with directions to our training site for November 20th.
If you have any questions, please contact VCIC’s Hampton Roads Programs Meagan Starks.
We look forward to the chance to work with you!
